Doug's Testimony

I was born into a Methodist family and can't remember not going to church. However, I made my commitment to Christ at 16 during a mission by Manchester University students. My father died when I was 19 and I began training as a "Local Preacher" soon afterwards. My time in National Service was a "barren" one spiritually but soon after I became engaged to a "good Baptist" young lady. When we decided to settle in Wendy's home city (Brum) in 1956, I transferred my membership to Yardley Wood Baptist Church where eventually I became, for eight years, Church Secretary.  During this time I administered two changes of pastor.

My hobby, until quite recently, was Musical Theatre (as a principal in operetta, and for a while as Chairman) but now I sing with the Solihull Male Voice Choir.

Doug's Qualifications

In the 50s I  trained as a Methodist Local Preacher. In 1976 I joined the BDBPA

Doug's Preaching Emphasis

My home church is an evangelically biased fellowship, and our worship style has evolved over recent years to be Spirit led but still with a degree of liturgy; ie a balanced service suited to old and young alike. This is my preference also.

I like to work within a structured preaching ministry (as in my home church) and devote much time to research and prayer during the preparation of an address, and in weaving around it an integrated and worthy worship.

Own Transport?

Yes
