Arrange a session with your
pastor or fellowship leader. Share
with him/her how the Lord is leading you.
 |
If you have already
preached within your fellowship, then discuss taking the next step. |
 | If not, ask your
pastor to arrange opportunities to preach
and preside at the Lord's table. |
 |
Once you have done
this, have a
further chat and decide together about taking the next step. |
|
 | If
either your pastor or you believe that you need more experience and this
cannot readily be provided at your church, our Secretary
would be able to recommend an experienced preacher who will be able to
give you both practical advice and opportunities to develop your preaching
gifts. |
 |
Once
your
pastor is supporting you, then ask for his/her recommendation at the church meeting.
Expect the meeting to ask you to share with
them your call. Your pastor will no doubt share positively the
conversations that have taken place and members may also comment. A
positive vote is needed for you to take the next step. |
 | Fill in the
application form
and ensure that your pastor and Church Secretary sign the appropriate boxes, sending it to
our Secretary at the
address on the form. |
 |
A
mentor will be appointed who will be an experienced preacher.
He/she will meet with you to discuss how best to take things forward.
You might, for example, like to accompany another preacher to begin with,
gradually taking on more of a role at the services you take together or you
might feel ready to take a whole service straightaway. |
 | When
you feel ready to take a whole service at another church, we will organise this for you and invite a few members of the BDBPA. Together with a member of the
church, they will carry out an assessment and decide whether you are ready
to join our preachers list. |
 | Soon afterwards, you will receive feedback from the
assessors, who will have filled in the assessment
form and advice on
how your ministry might develop. If both you and your mentor believe that
it is right to continue, they will then make
a recommendation at the next BDBPA meeting. The Secretary
will let you know
soon after that meeting if your application has been successful or not. |
 |
Ask
your pastor for an opportunity at a church service for the fellowship to
recognise your call - usually in prayer and in laying on of hands.
This affirms the public backing of your church for the ministry to which God
has called you. |
