John's Testimony

I became a Christian aged 11 when the message of Easter was simply explained to me.  Since then I have grown and matured in my faith.  My experience includes: Boys' Camps; University Christian Union; Crusader Leader; Young People's expedition leader; and various activities within local churches (young people's groups; worship leader; music group; prayer group; etc).  Currently, in addition to my involvement at Acocks Green Baptist Church, I am a Board Member / Trustee for Saltmine Trust, and similar for Latin Link.

John's Qualifications

I have been involved in occasional preaching since my late teens, both in my local church and at others.  Following my “part time” early retirement in 2002, I have been involved in around15 to 20 preaching engagements a year.  I have no formal preaching qualifications, though am considering the possibility of more formal study.

John's Preaching Emphasis

I seek to make my style in worship and preaching appropriate and relevant to the local congregation, to its needs, and where it is at.  I am happy to work from a lectionary or choose my own subject, and am equally at home with All Age / Young People slots where this is relevant.  At heart I am relatively informal, gently charismatic, and lean towards modern worship styles.  However I am also happy with traditional hymns and types of service, and believe the important thing is that the service and preaching help point our worship to the Lord in the local context..
